| BF-stone 0-32 as strong road material. |
BF-stone is composed of blast furnace slag, which is produced parallel to the production of iron. There is approximately 240.000 ton slag produced annually from SSAB Oxelösund. The tap temperature of the slag is about 1500°C. The slag can be cooled into two main products BF-stone and BF-sand, both having very special characteristics.
The common name for air-cooled blast furnace slag is BF-stone. It is crushed into the same fractions as crushed natural rock. BF-stone is also recycled within SSAB.
BF-stone is mainly remelted natural rock, which contains mostly silicon and lime stone. The product is characterised by low density, high friction, high insulation power and cement characteristics.
BF-stone is from an environmental point of view a often a better alternative than pit run and natural crushed rock.
The range of uses for BF-stone includes road construction, gravel roads, prevention of slippery roads and within the cement- and mineral wool industry.
